A colorful introduction to hair culture. The book starts with Kyra, the main character, answering her friends questions about her hair, such as why her hair grows up instead of down. The book also takes a trip to a local hair salon where readers are introduced to the sights, sounds, and smells of the place. We do not like the idea of introducing young readers to relaxers, but the introduction to hair-centric vocabulary such as hair types, hair follicles, the process of styling, and more is nice.
