Flappy Bird was a mobile game with a simple goal -- avoid the green pipes. It was released in May 24, 2013 and in less than 9 months was downloaded over 50 million times. It gained virality because it was almost impossible to navigate the bird without hitting the obstacles. Dong Nguyen, the Vietnamese programmer who developed the game, allegedly did not like all the attention he was attracting, so he removed Flappy Bird in 2014. Since then there have been countless Flappy Bird remakes. We found some really innovative versions on Scratch. Our goal is to share the versions that aren't as difficult, meaning you can get higher than 1 or 2 points. We hope you enjoy our picks!
1. Angry Flap
Screenshot of Angry Flap by Wildfire on Scratch
This Flappy Bird remake brilliantly combines two classics. Angry birds (the more complicated game) with Flappy Birds the popular but simpler one. Players try to navigate an angry white bird through dirt mounds. You'll see a bright orange sun in the blue sky above red mountains. This is the easiest of the Flappy Bird remakes we've played, because there is a greater distance between obstacles, and they aren't as thick.

2. Flappy Santa

This Flappy Bird remake features Santa in what looks like the North Pole with snowy evergreen trees and mountains in the background. The goal is to help Santa navigate through a sea of royal blue pipes by clicking or tapping. The game glitches a bit, but we still love the idea.

3. Flappy Minecraft

This Flappy Bird remix features a headless Steve (the main character on Minecraft) flying through a blocky sky. Since Steve only bounces (and doesn't wobble) during his flight, the game is less challenging.

4. Flappy Dunk

Flappy Dunk is a super unique spin on Flappy Bird. The scene is set on a horizontal court with the player starting as an orange basketball. The goal is to stay in the lane (not hitting the black lines on the top or bottom), while also swooshing through each passing red hoop. Each basket gains a point and the opportunity to customize the ball, wings, and hoop. A super simple but addictive game you'll probably want to play over and over again.

5. Tappy Plane

Help this adorable little plane keep its course. Tappy Plane looks like it's set in a cave. So the obstacles you'll want to avoid are stalactites and stalagmites. These are icicle-shaped structures erupting from a cave ceiling and floor. Since these structures are pointed, instead of wide, they are slightly easier to bypass.

6. Flappy Bird
Screenshot of Flappy Bird by CompletelyAwesomeMan on Scratch
The following Scratcher wanted to make their best version of Flappy Bird (which we think they achieved). Not only does it look incredibly similar to the original version, we're also super grateful this one is easier to play. You'll see a replica of the orange-billed yellow bird with big eyes and wings. A noticeable difference is the floating white bubbles across the blue sky.

8. Flappy Copter

We love this spin on Flappy Bird. In Flappy Copter, the player controls a magnet at the end of a rope. The goal is to collect coins without hitting birds flying by. There's an easy and hard version.

Now that you've experienced the easier versions of this popular game, we wanted to include more challenging ones for comparison.
1. Mr. Flap
Screenshot of Mr. Flap by cLime on Scratch
We love the minimalism and design of this game. It features a square teal bird flying on a circular path. The goal is to get through little openings on the player's journey through the wheel. In addition to the moving openings, the multiple directions involved make it extremely difficult to get one's bearings straight.

2. Flip Flap

This remake has a heavy kickback. That means that the player glides a lot of pixels upward every time you click or press up. It's still a cool game, just a little more challenging.

That's it for our list! Can you believe that a game allegedly coded in less than 3 days, is still admired a decade later. Do you prefer the easier versions or the harder ones? Which one would you remix?
