Head to the Esplanade to enjoy Boston's annual 4th of July celebration. The Oval (which is the grass-filled area in front of the DCR Hatch Shell) opens at 12noon. Since this historic event is free and on a first-come-first served basis, thousands of people attend. You'll want to get there early to claim a spot. You can bring blankets, folding chairs, or a pop-up tent with no sides. Glass bottles, backpacks, cans and coolers are not allowed. For a full list of what you can and can not bring, as well as other things to know before you go, visit The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) here.

12:00pm - 7:00pm (Activities)

8:00pm - 10:30pm (Concert)

10:30pm - 11:00pm (Fireworks)

Below are previews of previous celebrations.

Public transportation or ride-sharing is the probably the best option for traveling, as Storrow Drive will be closed to vehicles at some point in the day.

Not a fan of crowds or just prefer to stay home? The event typically streams live on Channel 7.
