What Are Candy Buy Backs (+ How Do They Work)?

illustration of multi-colored gummy bears on top of sprinkles

Candy Buy Backs incentivize little ones to bring in excess candy for a non-candy treat. They’re a popular event during the halloween season and have been used mainly by dentist to promote healthy smiles.

Some programs offer $1 - $2 per pound, which can cap at $5 per child. Others offer trade-ins where the candy is swapped for a sticker, raffle ticket, toy, toothbrush, or other cool prize.

The candy is then donated through care packages to overseas troops, first responders, or other non-profit organizations.

We called a few dentists in Boston. Many had never heard of the event. A couple of offices seemed interested, but none are currently hosting a buy back (that we know of).
