A community comes together to clean up an abandoned lot. They build raised beds, fill them with composted dirt, tuck in some seeds and shower them with water. The new flowers help the once hungry bees return. Then kale, collards, kittley and carrot start to grow. We love the way the city is depicted in this book and it reminds us of fun times in our own community garden. If you haven't volunteered in a garden, try it -- just once - you'll have a blast and the produce tastes amazing! The book ends with the importance of honey bees and how to make your lot bee-friendly.
Bugs
Nancy and her friend Bree find a butterfly while playing in the backyard. They notice that it isn't flying because her wings are wet. The girls are so excited to help. They name their new pet butterfly and bring it indoors to play. Nancy and Bree also dress up in butterfly costumes and build a cozy butterfly home. Once their butterfly friend's wings dry, Nancy notices that the butterfly wants to go back outside. A cute story about playing and caring for nature's creatures.
